Weekend Post

POETRY

Here Today...Gone Tomorrow

It is like a stampede
how the mind works
in the gathering of things
and there are footsteps everywhere
sounds of feet chattering in chaos
screeching sometimes
in the push and shove
jostling each other
in the city streets of Mumbai
slick tiny business sizzling
with tandori naan and goat curry
and Times Square mavericks
hiding their eyes from street vendors
now selling hot-dogs and sugar-cane juice
you can see them here too
in Nathan Phillips Square
drinking water-coconuts with straw
or balancing cups of Tim Horton’s coffee
heading in and out of nowhere
in transit to pan-handle rush hour
sometimes difficult to understand
if mobility means to peddle oneself
in ascent or decent in going places
this we know with certainty
you are here today
and you will be gone tomorrow
as long as memory does not
suffer senility syndrome.

WEekend POst "Meeeee *"

by Melissa

My husband makes me feel pretty
on days when my mirror
is least complimentary,

he says, My,
you look winsome today
and I can't help but wonder
if all along
I've been hiding these pesky insecurities
on my face,
and he forged this lovely notion
on my behalf;
or I really am pretty,
in spite of imperfection

either way, it must be love,
right?

Weekend Post *

This weekend Shutter Island came out. When "Shutter Island" opened with an average grade from moviegoers of just C+, Paramount Pictures had to wonder: Did audiences genuinely dislike the movie, or were they just unsure what to think of the twist ending as they walked out of theaters?
The studio got the answer it wanted this weekend, as ticket sales for the Martin Scorsese-directed thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio declined a relatively modest 46%, indicating that word-of-mouth is pushing the picture along, rather than sinking it. "Shutter Island" easily topped the box office chart this weekend, selling a studio-estimated $22.2 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada from Friday through Sunday. Of the two new nation-wide movies, Warner Bros.' "Cop Out" performed better, collecting $18.6 million, while Overture Films' horror remake "The Crazies" brought in $16.5 million. That's actually a stronger start for "Crazies," however, which cost Overture and its financing partners just under $20 million to produce while Warner spent nearly $40 million to make "Cop Out," the Kevin Smith-directed buddy comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Movie going was sharply curtailed by a major snowstorm in the Northeast on Friday, which kept many at home. Here is how the rolling stones reviewed the "Shutter Island"

Ova Dah Weekend *

BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- A small plane that slammed into a house and hangar in a subdivision built for aviation enthusiasts never sent out a distress signal before crashing, authorities said Monday. Two people believed to be on board were presumed killed.
No one on the ground was injured when the single-engine Piper Malibu went down in rain Sunday evening in the Aero Estates Court subdivision while approaching St. Louis Downtown Airport, just east of St. Louis, St. Clair County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Johnson said.
Airport director Bob McDaniel said the plane, which can seat up to six passengers, was based at the airport and was flying from Vero Beach, Fla.

News And Media
WASHINGTON — President Obama on Monday laid out for the first time a detailed legislative proposal for overhauling health care, largely sticking with the approach passed by the Senate with unified Democratic support in December but making concessions to the House version as well.
Mr. Obama’s proposal is the opening act to a week of high drama around health care that will culminate on Thursday, when the president convenes Democrats and Republicans at an all-day televised health care “summit” at Blair House. The White House is hoping the session can jump start the stalled health bill.
